SHARK-Stop Hit And Run Killers
In the depths of the ocean lurks the shark. Known for their random attack on humans, the shark resembles the hit and run driver. They disappear as quickly as they come.
|
Why was this site created?
I remember the first couple days after my Mom was almost killed by a hit and run driver. It was
surreal-the kind of thing that would happen in a movie, not in real life. Could a person really hit a human
being and then leave them to die in the middle of the road?
The anger and sadness were unbearable, and we were so angry at having to be forced into the role of
a “victim.” The continual re-victimization through the criminal justice system was almost just as bad, not
to mention how our civil lawyer deceived and cheated us for two years, how the teenage driver showing
no remorse and came out of it all with minimal repercussions, and how his parents were so neglectful
and protected their son from facing any consequences and taking responsibility for his actions over and
over again. They go on with their lives today, while my mother will forever live with physical injuries and
emotional trauma. Even the tire marks that were imprinted on her back from being run over are just now
starting to fade.
But the bruises do fade, and the wounds will heal Through the knowledge that we have gained from our
experiences, we have grown from helpless victims to informed advocates. We are in the midst of trying
to understand the laws and how the legal system works. We are gathering information to present to the
Police, the DA's Office, and the Probation officers in order to get them to work more cohesively with
victims.
We never want anyone to go through the horrible experiences of the legal system as we have. Nor do
we ever want a victim to have a lawyer misrepresent them and deceive them like we did. This website is
a work in progress. As we learn we will share with other victims and their friends and families what they
can do.
If you want to join us in the fight for justice and enacting stricter laws, please email us. If you
would like to talk about your experiences, ideas, or have any questions, email us. We hope this
will be a place where we can all connect with each other. We look forward to hearing from you
and uniting together in awareness of the horror of hit and runs. Thank you!
